3 reasons to check your pop-up today

3 reasons to check your pop-up today

Do you know how many leads you get from your pop-up each month?

If you’re not focused on what’s happening with your pop-up, you might be leaving money on the table.

And if you don’t have a pop-up, you’re definitely leaving money on the table.

At my new store, Sock Doggo, emails collected from my pop-up are responsible for more than 20% of my sales.

And it’s all automated. I don’t have to do anything beyond checking in on it now and then.

So it makes sense for you to spend a little time on this.

Watch the video to see the recent change I made to my pop-up that has improved my conversion rate by 2%.

Here are the 3 reasons you’ll want to run and check your pop-up today:

Reason #1 Email converts better than any source of traffic. Period.

In almost every case, traffic that comes from an email converts better than traffic from any other source. Once you know that, it becomes clear that you owe it to yourself to make sure you grow your list every single day.

Reason #2  Getting a pop-up in place, and making sure it’s converting well is perfectly aligned with the work you do every week.

Here’s what I mean:

You’re working on getting traffic to your site every day. When you have a pop-up on your site, you’ll automatically collect email addresses when people engage with your pop-up. Want more emails? Send more traffic.

Reason #3  It is automated.

This is about as close to passive revenue as you’ll get. The key is to get a pop-up set up and add in a short welcome series as an automated funnel. Even if people don’t buy when they sign up, you’ll have an email series in place, warming them up until they’re ready to convert.

The big question most people have is:

What’s a good conversion rate for my pop-up?

Industry stats say that people have to see your pop-up an average of 3 times before they sign up.

Engagement (Opt in) rates average 3% across all e-commerce.

But that’s not good enough for us. We’re in a different category. We’re specialists, and we are focused on driving the best quality traffic to our sites.

We need to shoot for engagement rates of 5% – 9%.

And the 4 mistakes I want you to avoid?

1) Make sure your offer has top billing and is scan-able.

2) Avoid multiple pop-ups and if you use an Exit Intent pop-pup, check your mobile view. They tend to pop up many times during a session. Make sure your pop-ups don’t appear as soon as the visitor lands on your site.

3) Deliver the reward on a success message while the visitor is still on your site. Don’t make them leave to get their discount by email. Deliver it by email as well as on the success message.

4) Make sure your pop-up is easy to close. Have others test it. Don’t risk bounces because someone can’t close your pop-up!

How Madeline changed everything without spending a fortune on ads

How Madeline changed everything without spending a fortune on ads

I want you to meet someone special, because I think you’ll get huge value from her story.

Madeline’s business, Colorful Cute,  has been very much a side hustle since she opened her shop in 2017.

Like so many of us, she was busy with her day job, 3 kids, and all the things.

And really, her results weren’t great. Last September, she only had sales of $152.

But earlier this year, she made 3 changes that made all the difference.

This past September, her sales were $3,569.

She’s on track to do even more this month.

Here’s why you’ll find Madeline’s strategy so compelling:

It won’t cost a thing. Just your time.

Here’s what Madeline changed:

First, she decided to hold herself to a higher standard (this is the brilliant part).

She realized that the standard of work, the consistency, the follow up, and the strategy she was using in her own business would never cut it for her employer.

She made a decision to show up at her own business, and perform like a manager should, even though she wasn’t able to work full time hours, she was able to schedule her time, and give her best effort.

Once she changed her mindset, and decided to show up as a manager, she gave herself permission to stop doing all the things. Instead, she took a good look at what was working for Colorful Cute, and decided to double down on only that, and leave the rest.

Lastly, she did a deep dive and did the legwork to understand exactly who her customer is, where they hang out, what they talk about, even the words they use, and then she put together a plan to engage with them consistently on Instagram.

Once she had the plan, Madeline got super focused, and consistent on just those few things.

And now, instead of struggling to get a few orders a week, she feels like she’s just scratched the surface, and the potential for her success is huge!

Watch here to get all the details of Madeleine’s plan.

What you can learn from my 11 months of sales

What you can learn from my 11 months of sales

I’ve been open for business at Sock Doggo for 11 months! And in that time, I’ve learned a thing or two about what actually gets me sales.

When I break it down, there are 2 big rocks that I can connect to more than 64% of my total sales.

That’s huge.

It means I need to re-evaluate how I spend my time and money in order to double down on the things that are working. It also means that I can dump a few activities and not feel stressed about NOT doing them.

These 11 months have not been perfect, in fact, some of it has even been ugly. When I am feeling overwhelmed, the negative voices start creeping into my head.

You might know those voices. They’re the ones that are saying “You’re doing it wrong”, “You should be better at this”, “Everybody else is getting it, why not me?”  The ones that make you feel like it’s too hard to build a business that pays you well, and you should just quit.

Those voices can be hard to ignore. But here’s the good news. I’ve been through this before and I know how to change that mindset fast. Trust me, you can’t let negative feelings impact your decisions, because there are good things to come. Promise.

Here are the details on Sock Doggo’s big rocks:

When I look at my sales for 11 months of business, here’s what I know:

  • 22% of all sales are wholesale and resulted from a collaboration with another Shop. You can read about it here. The collab was very successful when we launched it in November of 2019, but it keeps paying off in wholesale sales from the Shop I worked with, and that’s been amazing. It tells me that I need to double down, and create more opportunities for Sock Doggo to collaborate with other Shops.

And the other big rock:

  • 43% of all my online sales have been as a result of an email. Even though it often feels like I’m talking to the wall, and I think my results should be better. It’s working better than any other activity. Plain and simple. So, do I need a beautiful Instagram Profile, or do I need to spend that energy creating better emails, finding more subscribers, and working my lists?

Discovering your big rocks and doubling down on those activities will pay off in spades. Not only will it save you money and time, it will also save you from thinking you have to do ALL OF THE THINGS!

How you can make a simple Marketing Plan

How you can make a simple Marketing Plan

We’ve reached the 4th quarter (yay!) and now it’s time to really focus on maximizing the last few months of the year.

This week I’m sharing my Marketing Plan for October at Sock Doggo.

You might find some inspiration there, or, you might be more interested in how you can create a simple Marketing Plan that won’t send you into a tailspin from overwhelm.

So, what’s the plan?

It’s really simple, but oh so good, and it’s just one thing.

Here’s the thing:

Send an email to your audience EVERY week this month! I promise you’ll get the best results from this and here’s why:

1) You’ll get sales. Traffic from Email converts 3-7 X more often than traffic from other sources.

2) You’ll keep your list engaged. So that when you’re ready to do more, you’ll benefit from higher open and click rates and MORE sales.

3) You’ll increase the frequency of web visits, and give your subscribers multiple opportunities to buy.

I’m sure you’re thinking that sounds great in theory, but you might be fresh out of email ideas.

If that’s you, I made you a podcast episode with 12 email ideas that you can take and just rinse and repeat.  You can listen here on Apple Podcasts or here on Spotify.

And if you want to up your sending strategy, I’ll give you my strategy which is designed to get you more sales from the email you send. You can listen here on Apple Podcasts or here on Spotify.

And if you want the whole thing (my plan) because you’re ready to go deep, you can get details of my plan here. Watch and see how I’ve structured 2 collaborations, and a new product launch.

What it cost to generate 2000 email leads

What it cost to generate 2000 email leads

At Sock Doggo we have been hyper focused on Leads. I even made it my ‘big’ goal for the month.

My goal was to generate 2000 leads in September.

We’ve been selling the same box of socks for 10 months, and we’re finally receiving socks for 4 new dog breeds.

I decided the best way to build an audience of potential buyers was to build a big, fat list.

Here’s why:

1. I know that 36% of my sales have come from email.

2. I know that 25% of my overall sales have come from 1st touch on a Giveaway.

3. I want to build a quality list by dog breed I can use over the 4th quarter.

Watch here to see:

  • How I set up a version of our Perfect Giveaway Training
  • How many leads we collected
  • What it cost me
  • My next steps

Here is a closer look at what we did:

  1. Set up a post for each dog breed.

2. Tested Creative (not target). We will test targets next month using the lessons from the Inner Circle Traffic Bootcamp program. The image above got the most leads for my budget.

3. Set up Conversion ads for Lead Generation.

*** When someone clicked on my ad, they went to this Landing Page

And we sent them this Auto Responder by email

Now that you know what we did, here are our RESULTS!

We generated 1790 leads:

  • 1675 were paid
  • 115 were organic

Our Auto Responder resulted in a:

  • 53% open rate
  • 15.9% click rate; and
  • 351 web visits

We generated insights into the dog breeds people are interested in by tracking link clicks:

  • Here is the link activity

What did it cost?

Our cost was very high at .95/lead and $1584 over 17 days.

Contrast this with our Dachshund breed, which we’ve been consistently working on for a year at .30/lead.

We’ve had two sales so far valued at $65.

What are our next steps?

Now we work the list. We’ve built up a solid pool of potential customers and we now need to sell, sell, sell, and track the results.

We’ve sent one good news/bad news email so far with a sales offer that can be used until the end of the month. We plan to send at least three more emails this month.

Then it will be time to clean the list up.

I am working on building my marketing plan for October in order to capitalize on our leads to maximize sales. Stay tuned.

Reporting 10 months of Sales at my new store

Reporting 10 months of Sales at my new store

At the end of August, we completed our first 10 months of sales at Sock Doggo.

To be honest, when I look back at where we were and where we are now, it’s easy for me to feel disappointed about my progress.

I think that for many people, that’s common.

In the Inner Circle, we do a lot of tracking and measuring.

We track Key Metrics to see our progress.

We do this for two reasons:

1) To understand what works.

2) To take the emotion out of business.

That last point is critical. As business owners, we need to stop feeling our way through the days and instead use the data to drive our decisions and to provide clarity on our next steps.

Today I’m sharing my Key Metrics with you.

Watch and see:

  • My Traffic
  • My Conversion Rate
  • My Sales

In the Screenshot below, you can see my Key Metrics for the first 10 months of business at Sock Doggo.

We’re at the Conversion Stage. In the Conversion Stage, I’m actively working on getting my add to cart rate up. My first goal is to increase the add to cart rate from 2.59% to 4%.

If I can reach that goal, I should be able to get an overall Conversion Rate of 1%.

That’s not my end goal, but it’s a good start!

I know that there’s one thing, above all other that can increase my add to cart %, and get me more sales.
I need to to focus on getting more returning visitors to my site.

In the screenshot below, you can see that the conversion rate for returning visitors is almost double that of new visitors.

So my “one thing” going forward is to increase my returning visitor % from 11% to 30%.
