The cost of my new socks and other details

The cost of my new socks and other details

At Sock Doggo, I’m about to receive more than 6000 pairs of socks.

And in all honesty, it couldn’t happen soon enough.

I’ve been selling the same product for 10 months, and it’s been a tough go since our best month in June.

In the next week or so, I should have brand new socks for 4 new breeds of dogs.

The good news is that it’s enough inventory to potentially reach $50K.

The bad news is that I need to build audiences for these new breeds.

Last week I shared how I’m doing that, and as of now, I’m a little more than halfway to my goal of 2000 new email subscribers (you can see how I’m doing it here).

But this week, some fun.

Check out this chat with Izabela Ersahin, the founder of Sector 7, in Istanbul, Turkey. Sector 7 is a Social Enterprise. They employ women who have no opportunity to get traditional employment.

Watch and see how I’m manufacturing our socks, and how you might be able to produce your products in a cost effective way that also does good in the world.

How much did our socks cost?

Our socks cost $1.01 per pair. That included our packaging, but not costs related to shipping. In total the process took about 12 weeks, which was longer than I had planned. It was definitely a learning experience, but I took away a few valuable lessons.

Here are my top 3 takeaways and tips:

1) Give yourself twice as much time as you think you need, the process is not always smooth.

2) Have “feet on the ground “ when your product is being made. Not only does it ensure that you actually get a quality product, but you also get the opportunity to have behind the scenes images and videos to use on social media and email.

3) Manage your expectations. The process is never perfect. Understand that there will be bumps in the road. Treat your manufacturing partner well, and work on a long term relationship that will benefit you over the years.

The delivery of this product will be a major milestone for Sock Doggo and on my journey to 50K. I am excited to share with you our next steps and show you how we’re going to reach our goal!

I’m going to grow my list by 2000 names in 30 days (here’s how)

I’m going to grow my list by 2000 names in 30 days (here’s how)

If you’ve been following the Roadmap to $50K, you know that I’m about to receive socks for people who love four new breeds of doggos.

It’s about $70K at retail, which will go a long way to get me to my first $50K.

If I can sell it.

The first thing I need to do is find an audience of people who are the “right” people.

Then I need to get them on my email list, so I can reach them without spending more money on ads.

As I write this, more than 25% of my sales have come from people we found using our Perfect Giveaway strategy.

That’s a big clue about what works to get sales at Sock Doggo, so I’m doubling down and starting with that.

Here is the plan.

1. The one thing I’m doing to get the most leads:

I’m testing two different images against each other to find out which ones will get more leads for my money. I’m using the same budget for each image, and targeting the same audience

When I have a clear winner, I’ll put all my $ on the winning ad.

2. The reason I always start with a post on my Page:

When I turn a post into an ad, I get lots of new eyeballs on my post because I’m spending money to get it out into the newsfeed. When people interact with that post, Facebook sees it as an engaging post, and so it also shows my post (from my Page) to more people organically – for free!

3. The number of leads I’ve collected

I created my first posts 3 days ago. And on the 2nd day,  I turned them into ads. The result, in just 3 days? Well, I now have 239 leads. I’ve had 197 that are directly from the ad, and 42 that came free, from that extra organic reach!

Watch the video to see:

  • The kind of ad I use to generate leads (it will surprise you)
  • The Giveaway Landing Page that is converting at 71% (yipee)
  • The one thing I would change (If I could go back and start again)

A tiny ad spend now that pays off later

A tiny ad spend now that pays off later

In the next month I’ll be receiving more than 6000 pairs of socks.

Now I need a plan to sell them.

I have an amazing collab lined up with a major shop, and I feel confident that I’ll sell lots of our new dachshund inspired socks.

More on that in the upcoming weeks.

But, I have designed socks for 4 new dog breeds, and I have no audience for them. Yikes!

It’s crucial that I build an audience for these products, or I won’t meet my $50K sales goal.

I’ve used a tiny $3/day ad spend, now before the products arrive, and I’ll show you how it will pay off in the next few months.

Watch the video to see my 5 step plan that I’ve used to start building an audience.

Want to try it?

Here’s a step by step:

1) Post raw, behind the scenes images with a simple question.

2) Turn the posts into engagement ads with a small budget and a broad interest target.

3) Check the ads often and invite the people who have engaged to Like your Page.

4) Set up products on your site using the sample pics.

5) Set up back in stock notifications on the products.

How to do an Ads Manager Treasure Hunt

How to do an Ads Manager Treasure Hunt

This month I’m working through Conversion Bootcamp with our Inner Circle Members.

The goal is to get sales by turning more of our web visitors into customers.

This past week, in Conversion Bootcamp, we did an Ads Manager Treasure Hunt.

It’s a super simple exercise, where you use your Ads Manager to find what’s really working in your business to get traffic and sales for the lowest cost.

It works very well, because you use your data (results) to find a perfect combination of ad, audience and budget.

I think it’s worth doing and I highly recommend you give it a try!

Want to learn how? Check out my demo.

The really good stuff starts at 6:37 where I show you step by step how to execute an Ads Manager Treasure Hunt!

And in case you’re wondering if I’m getting back in the game, let me show you my August sales results so far:

My sales are leaps and bounds better than July with the help of Conversion Bootcamp and the month is not over yet!

Want to get in on the action? The Inner Circle is accepting new members soon. Get on the waitlist and we’ll send you a free lesson so you can see what’s waiting inside.

Don’t let this happen to you

Don’t let this happen to you

If you’ve been following my progress as I lurch towards $50K in my new store, you might remember that in June, I had my best month of sales. We sold more than $2K in June, with basically one product, a $37 box of socks for people who love wiener dogs.

After what felt like a big win, I hunkered down and did some serious work in July.

I’m in the process of manufacturing several new styles, and developing an audience as I prepare to launch them.

Sound familiar?

All July I kept my head down, and because I was so focused on my new project, I missed one really important thing.

And because of that my conversion rate dropped from 2% to .64%.

I bet you’ve done this too.

What happened?

Watch this episode to see what marketing work I did, and how I fooled myself into thinking I was making progress.

You’ll see how I could have avoided this disaster simply by tracking a few key metrics.

The short version is that I got so busy doing “all the things”, I took my eye off the ball, and missed the important things. The things that actually get me sales.

The work I did was all good, but I didn’t do any sales focused work.

And because I wasn’t tracking my metrics, by the time I realized what was happening, the month was almost over.

What metrics should I be tracking?

  • Traffic
  • Returning Visitors
  • Average Order Value
  • Conversion Rate

Are you tracking these key metrics? If not, you need to start today.

Your biggest opportunity this year. How to prepare for it today.

Your biggest opportunity this year. How to prepare for it today.

I read an article last week that says online shopping is up 110% since COVID hit in March.

That got me thinking about what’s going to happen this holiday season and the opportunity for us as online store owners.

And it’s huge.

Because I’m willing to bet that there are a lot of people that will choose to buy gifts online instead of braving the crowds at the mall or Big Box stores.

And I know that many of them will be looking to buy from online stores that they already know, love and trust.

You already have a list of people who have made a purchase from you, and NOW is the time to think about what you could offer that would make it easy for them to buy gifts for their loved ones from your store.

I’m all in on this strategy for Q4, at my business, Sock Doggo.

There’s one thing you can do right now, that will give you a massive advantage as you prepare to have your best Q4 ever.

It’s this:

You already have a list of buyers, and you can reach out to them for free using email!

You can find out exactly what they really want, and you can do it now, while you still have time to create a plan.

Here’s how I implemented this at Sock Doggo last week:

Quick results?

  • 61% of my responses confirmed my idea.
  • I can move forward with confidence knowing that I am on the right track.
  • You can easily do this too. Think about what you need to know and use my simple one click email strategy (see it in the video) to get answers fast.
